SOUTHEAST DISTRICT — Fredericksburg Elementary School looked a little like Santa’s workshop Thursday.
Students scurried about, carrying wrapping paper up to classrooms where growing piles of presents waited to be carted down to the gym and deposited in baskets woven through in green and red ribbons. The baskets, carrying Christmas gifts of toys and necessary household items, will be donated through Share-A-Christmas to eight needy families in Holmes County.
The giving was made possible by donations from students’ families, put to use in a schoolwide project that includes a shopping trip to the Millersburg Wal-Mart. Some 200 students, grades one-six, used their math skills to price goods as they filled out a gift list with a set amount of money.
Title intervention teacher Jane Slater said the program, now in its sixth year, took the place of the school’s annual student gift exchange. Instead of students taking in a small gift for $3 or under, parents send in a small donation with their child. This year, the donations amounted to about $145 per family.
The kids do the shopping. Rather than just turn a couple hundred kids loose in the aisles, classes brainstorm the day before, trying to decide the best gifts for their assigned mom or dad, boy or girl. One of the families is expecting, and a class picked out items for a newborn.
The students showed true insight when selecting gifts, Slater said.
“Who would think kids would enjoy shopping for necessities like toilet paper, and comparing prices?” Slater said. “One of the families is a single father and his son, so they said they wanted to buy them a family game so they’ll spend more time together

Fortunately, there are now a growing number of handy utilities that can help webmasters located broken links. With these utilities, managing a website becomes relatively easier.
For example, xml-sitemaps.com has programmed a standalone script that will not only create sitemaps but also looks for broken links in a website and then informs webmasters or website owners what links they are and to which pages the links are associated with. This automation of the task of checking broken links is a great time saver for webmasters and website owners.
XML-Sitemaps.com lets you create a Google sitemap online and helps find and fix broken links in your website. create sitemaps.

One had 11 year-old twin girls who offered the following analysis to Christie?s: ?Since [Sotheby?s] were beginners, scissors were safest? for Christie?s, because ?rock is way too obvious and scissors beats paper.? The girls further explained ?that beginners think rock ?feels? strong, so they expect you to go for rock, so they choose paper to beat you.? As the girls predicted, Sotheby?s went for paper. Based on the girls? advice, Christie?s went for scissors and won the $17.8 million auction contract.
Needless to say, rock, paper, scissors is not a suitable method to resolve all disputes. Where appropriate, though, you may want to consult the World RPS Society, the Official Rock, Paper, Scissors Strategy Guide, your young nieces or nephews, or attend the next tournament near you. You can find listings for tournaments at www.usarps.com (held in June 2006 Las Vegas, Nevada with a $50,000 grand prize) and www.worldrps.com (to be held in Toronto, Ontario in September 2006).
