iFinance is a beautifully designed personal finance application with an iTunes-like interface that helps you budget your money and manage stocks, income, and expenses. Unfortunately, it lacks some very basic and necessary features, making it a questionable choice over other, more full-featured applications. The program doesn’t offer any kind of printed reports. Also, entering or editing banking transactions in iFinance requires too much effort compared with performing the same tasks in programs such as Quicken

Ivy Tech Community CollegeNortheast Increases Student Learning Opportunities with Panopto

Business Wire, Nov 18, 2009

Lecture Capture Solution CourseCast Connects Students and Faculty to
Critical Course Material

PITTSBURGH — Panopto, Inc., a leading provider of rich media presentation capture
solutions for the corporate, education, government and healthcare
markets, today announced that Ivy Tech Community CollegeNortheast,
the Fort Wayne, Ind., region of the Ivy Tech Community College of
Indiana system, is deploying CourseCast across its campus to provide
students with multiple chances to review and learn important course
material.

Traditionally in the education arena, students have one chance to learn
critical course material. They go to a lecture, take notes and move on,
even if they do not fully understand the information, said Andaz Ahmad,
director of instructional technology who manages Instructional
Technology, Distance Education for faculty/staff and Media Services, for
Ivy TechNortheast. With Panopto, students now have multiple
chances to really master course objectives. They can revisit lectures at
their convenience, zero in on segments of interest, and watch classes
they may have missed due to an illness or other obligation.

Ivy TechNortheast selected Panopto CourseCast as its lecture
capture solution based on its ability to capture all facets of a
lecture, including video, audio and PowerPoint slides. By integrating
all types of material into one digital recording, CourseCast allows
students and faculty to review past lectures to increase student success
as well as help professors evaluate their teaching styles.

Ivy TechNortheast noted that another selling point was Panoptos
ability to allow professors to record lectures from any location. Since
Panopto can capture rich media lectures using just a simple Web cam, Ivy
TechNortheast decided Panopto should be a critical component of
the colleges pandemic H1N1 preparedness and disaster recovery plans, as
it would allow classes to continue even in the case of a campus closure.

Panopto is committed to increasing student achievement by helping
students and faculty review and present critical information, even when
they cannot physically be in the classroom, said Brad Winney, chief
executive officer of Panopto. We are excited that Ivy TechNortheast
has deployed Panopto CourseCast to increase student learning
opportunities, improve faculty teaching styles and prepare its campus
for absences from illnesses, campus closures and other unplanned events.

After a competitive evaluation, Ivy TechNortheast chose
CourseCast over leading lecture capture solutions due to its low total
cost of ownership and ease of use, noting that recently it took less
than 15 minutes of training for a new faculty member to begin recording
high-quality rich media lectures.

DrNatura.com Introduces Kidetox, the First Comprehensive Detox Program Designed Specifically for Children

Market Wire, November, 2009

Colon
cleansing and detoxing is important for adults, but most people don’t
realize it’s even more important for children. DrNatura.com, the global
leader in the field of natural wellness and colon cleanse products, is proud to
introduce Kidetox , the first
comprehensive detox program designed
specifically for children ages 4 and up to help them cope with life in a
toxic world.

There are more than 150 chemicals found in the average home and dozens of
different chemicals can be found in drinking water. The effects of these
deadly chemicals are detrimental to the health of adults but even more so
to the health of children who ingest and absorb more toxins than adults on
a weight ratio basis. In addition, a diet high in sugar, soft-drinks and
junk-food combined with inactivity can cause poor digestion, occasional
constipation, low energy levels and weight gain.

“With our polluted air, water and nutritionally deficient foods, children’s
bodies must fight harder than ever before to stay healthy,” said Lynn
Hardy, N.D., C.N.C. “As parents, we really need to take a proactive stand
in protecting our children as much as possible from the ever-growing threat
of poisons and toxins around us and I’m so glad that DrNatura is here to
help us with Kidetox.”

Kidetox helps to promote health and vitality in several different ways:

-- Gently cleanses the colon, liver and other parts of the body
-- Helps water filter maintain regular bowel movements
-- Promotes digestive health with probiotics

“Kidetox has all the crucial ingredients that I would give to my own child
to help his body eliminate toxins that have been building up over the years
(and even in the womb), and it tastes fantastic,” said Dr. Hardy. “Even my
picky boy loved the taste and I saw such a difference in him after a couple
of weeks

Leader: Risks all round in medical bargains abroad

0 Comments | Scotsman (Edinburgh, Scotland), The, Feb 19, 2009

Byline: NO BYLINE

FACED with NHS waiting lists plano cosmetic dentist and infested hospitals, upwards of 70,000 British patients a year seek medical treatment, dentistry or cosmetic surgery abroad as a cheaper alternative to private care. Others go overseas in search of courses of treatments not found on the NHS. As we reveal today in a special Scotsman investigation, many Scots are travelling to China, India and Mexico for stem cell therapy – treatments which are often untested and can be of dubious medical value.

In recent years, inquiries have risen sharply at private agencies that offer to arrange surgical, dental, cosmetic or even experimental procedures anywhere in the world. Typically they offer all-inclusive packages that include medical work, travel, visas and recovery time in a local hotel – all for a fraction of the cost in Britain.

In India, medical tourism is forecast to become a GBP 1.2 billion business within six years

Bob Greene, New York Times Bestselling Author and ‘Oprah’ Guest Shares Important Tips on Preventing and Managing Diabetes to Coincide With World Diabetes Day, November 14

PR Newswire, Nov 12, 2009

NEW YORK, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ — Bob Greene, bestselling author and weight loss programs celebrity trainer, is embracing the message of the World Health Organization and International Diabetes Federation who have designated November 14 as “World Diabetes Day” in hopes of raising diabetes awareness and education globally.

Greene follows up his New York Times bestselling books “Total Body Makeover” and “The Best Life Diet” with “THE BEST LIFE GUIDE TO MANAGING DIABETES AND PRE-DIABETES” co-authored by John J. Merendino Jr., M.D. and Janis Jibrin, M.S., R.D., published by Simon & Schuster and available in bookstores now. This comprehensive guide includes essential information on prevention and management through diet, physical activity and medication.

A few fast facts on diabetes:
-- In the US alone, more than 24 million people suffer from diabetes and
more than 57 million have pre-diabetes
-- More than 285 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes
-- Some cases of Type 2 diabetes can be prevented with proper nutrition,
physical activity and by maintaining a healthy body weight

-- Diabetes risk is increasing fastest among children and adolescents

5 Tips from Bob Greene’s “THE BEST LIFE GUIDE TO MANAGING DIABETES AND PRE-DIABETES”:

  1. Start your day with steel cut oats. Because they're thicker and
coarser, steel cut oats have a 40% lower glycemic index than regular
oatmeal, translating to better blood sugar after the meal.
  2. Go a little nuts. Women eating the most nuts - 5 or more ounces weekly
     - had a 24% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes, according to
Harvard's Nurses' Health study. Peanut butter eaters had a similar drop
in risk. Nuts are also calorie-dense, so stick to about one ounce per
     day.
  3. Get out the measuring tape. Women, if your waist measures more than 35
inches, and men, if yours is more than 40 inches, you're at increased
risk for both pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes.
  4. Put on your sneaks and power walk. In 16 weeks, women lost 9% of the
riskiest kind of fat - the deep belly "visceral" fat - and another 9%
of subcutaneous (under the skin) belly fat by walking at moderate and
high intensities around a track 5 days a week.

  5. Your diabetes drugs can have positive side effects. While some
medicines promote weight gain, others can actually promote weight loss.
If taking drugs that are not waistline friendly, you can combat their
effects by exercising a little harder and eating a little less.
